About the Founder
My name is Jasmine Change-Jones
I am a science educator and PhD candidate in Science Education at the University of Georgia, dedicated to transforming rural education through equitable, inquiry-driven learning. Rooted in Jefferson County, Georgia, and shaped by the legacy of my parents—a farmer and a factory worker—I carry forward their values of service, resilience, and stewardship.
Losing both of them early in my journey taught me that opportunity, not ability, often defines a student’s path. That belief fuels my mission: to clear and light the way for others, especially Black and rural students who deserve access to meaningful, place-based science experiences.
Through my classroom teaching and my nonprofit, Roots of Discovery Science Initiative Inc., I design lessons, workshops, and community programs that connect science to identity, heritage, and the real world. My goal is simple: to spark curiosity, build confidence, and empower the next generation to use science as a tool for growth, justice, and change.

Nexus Community is where professionals, creatives, food
lovers, and adventurers come together to connect,
collaborate, and create. Through exceptional food, dynamic
events, mentoring, and shared spaces, we cultivate a culture
of belonging and visibility—because when we come together,
we build the “Next Us.”
